Music is Yoga. The Yoga of sound is called Nada Yoga. Singing spiritual
songs is a part of Bhakti Yoga, the Yoga of love and devotion.
In the beginning a vibration was manifested, a sound emerged from the vibration
and a word manifested from the vibration, the word OM. OM includes all the sounds
and words which have ever emerged.
Singing spiritual songs with devotion is the language of the heart, which has
the effect of magic medicine to dispell disharmonies in a very few moments.
Confidence and joy emerge from despondency. Rage gives way to love, agitation and animosity
give way to serenity and peace. It touches all levels, so that body, mind and soul
can discover harmony. One vibrates as one with the universal power and returns
to one’s true nature. Everyone can understand the language of music.
Singing Mantras helps overcome Tamassig (dark) and Rajassig (agitated) attributes.
The composition of the letters of the Mantras can erase all previous Samskaras
(impressions, tendencies of mind, which have been caused by previous actions).
Mantra Yoga is an accurate science.
SANKIRTAN – THE DEVOTIONAL SINGING OF GOD’S NAME
People come together for Sankirtan and sing the name of God in a group.
Sankirtan is one of the nine types of Bhakti. God can only be realized through Kirtan.
It is the simplest method in the Kali Yuga, the iron age, to reach God conciousness.
“Kalau Kesava Kirtanat”. A mighty spiritual power, Mahashakti, is created when people
gather together to practice Kirtan. This cleanses the seeker’s heart and raises it
to the highest peak of devine ecstasy or Samadhi.
The mighty vibrations are brought to a distant space. They raise everyone’s spirit,
provide them with solace and strength and proclaim peace, harmony and unity all over the world.
God Hari said to Narada: “Naham Vasami Vaikunthe Yoginam Hridaya Na Cha,
Madbhakta Yatra Gayanti Tatra Tishthami Narada”, “I am not in Vaikunthe
and not in the heart of Yogis, but I am there where people worship me
and sing my name, O Narada”. Kirtan destroys sin, Vasanas and Samskaras,
fills the heart with love and devotion and leads the believer to God’s countenance.
